Rainbow Six Siege Developers Take Steps on Stopping DDOS Attacks

Rainbow Six Siege developers are constantly undertaking new challenges that deal with hackers and exploiters making the PVP experience unfair for competitive gamers. After the constant updates that Siege provides, new problems tend to arise, and with 25 million active players, it doesn’t take long for the bad apples in the batch to take advantage of the instability to get their rank up quicker. Now, the next big issue are DDOS attackers interfering with the game to cause severe lag and force players to quit. Luckily, the developers already have a plan to put a stop to these attacks and ban the culprits for good.

If you have never really understood what a DDOS attack is, Siege’s sight explains a DDOS as “an attack on the server, or network, from multiple PCs/devices that overloads the network. This results in all players being disconnected and the match ending.” A DOS attack would affect the connection rather than the whole network which will cause significant slowdown and ultimately players getting kicked out or quitting because they are unable to move. Attacks such as these have been on the rise, ironically after the release of operation “Ember Rise”.

Developers have stated on their website, “We have monitored an increase in the amount of DDoS and DoS attacks against our servers following the release of Operation Ember Rise. We have identified the worst offenders perpetuating these DDoS/DoS attacks, and will be initiating a ban wave. This will apply to both PC and Console players. Players that have been found to be initiating DDoS/DoS attacks will be banned. Next week, will continue as needed.” The first big step to show hackers their behavior won’t be tolerated is the developing teams ability to jump on the scene right away and Siege devs have been excellent at just that.

Nathan Arquiette: Mom and Dad would never buy me a gaming console growing up, so I bought my own Dreamcast when I was 10 years old. Ever since then my passion for gaming went wild. Why watch a movie or read a book when you can take part in the plot playing a game was my philosophy. "Video games rot your brain" but I had a 10th grade reading level in the 6th grade all thanks to RPG's. Talking and writing about games is something I will never get tired of.
