Capcom Vancouver’s Puzzle Fighter recently released on Android and iOS devices for the rest of the world after the game soft launched in six countries in September.
Originally, Puzzle Fighter was first available in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico and Singapore. During the timed-exclusivity, the title saw two patch and three characters added to the roster, Street Fighter‘s Blanka, Devil May Cry‘s Dante, and Resident Evil‘s Jill Valentine. Mobile gamers in other countries were able to download the game once it became available on the App and Google Play stores on Nov. 22.

The mobile app, which is the sequel to 1996 arcade game Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (the name itself poking fun at Capcom’s Street Fighter titles), features online multiplayer, leaderboards, missions, a character roster spanning multiple Capcom series, and a color-blind option for the first time. Enabling color blind mode changes the blue, green, red and yellow blocks to cyan, a deeper green, purple and a brighter yellow. However, the loading animation and win screen still display the default color scheme.
Matching these blocks is crucial to gameplay, as the fighting aspect of the game relies on strategic placement to create larger Power Gems on the field that trigger each character’s signature moves, like Chun-Li’s Spinning Bird Kick and Ryu’s Shoryuken. Although each fighter can only equip two special moves at a time, players can add up to two support characters (from the same roster) to mix up combos.
In online play, there are ranks that mimic Street Fighter‘s edition titles again, with Super and Ultra variances of bronze, silver and gold besides the normal placement names, although everyone starts out in the single-tiered Rookie set. The higher a player’s rank, the better chance they have at earning better rewards like characters, currency and skill cards. Platinum, Diamond and Legend ranks will be added to the game soon.
Puzzle Fighter‘s full roster consists of the following;
- Blanka (Street Fighter)
- Chuck Green (Dead Rising)
- Chun-Li (Street Fighter)
