PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, the popular battle royale title, has still been one of the fastest growing games in the market, both on Twitch and Steam. Talks of porting PUBG to the Xbox One as an Xbox-exclusive title have been going on for while. As a part of Paris Games Week, PUBG was featured as one of the live streams associated with the event. The console port was talked about during the event, and it was confirmed that the console version of the game will launch worldwide on December 12th of this year.
The release of the Xbox One version of PUBG will be available through the Xbox Game Preview program, a system similar to that of Steam Early Access. Gamers can play the game while it is still being worked on, and they will receive regular updates to the game as the developers push out content. In addition to coming to Xbox One, Microsoft is helping port the game and will use the servers from Microsoft Azure, a widely used server service for Xbox games and beyond, to host PUBG.
There will also be a physical copy of PUBG available through Best Buy. The physical copy for the game will not contain a disc, but it will come with a download token to redeem through the Xbox Game Preview system. The MSRP for the title is set at $29.99 and is the same price as the PC version of the game available on Steam. The same price can be expected to be on the digital marketplace for Xbox. If you are a part of, or join, the Best Buy Gamers Club, however, you can save 20% on the game, bringing the price down to $23.99.
There are no current plans for cross-platform-play between PC players and console players, and it is highly unlikely that there will ever be cross-play. This is mainly due in part to the PC and console versions of the game using different servers to handle players, but it has been noted in the past that console players have an inherent disadvantage against PC players when it comes to shooter games.
With the release of PUBG on the Xbox One on its way, PC players can expect the title to leave Steam Early Access a little bit after the Xbox One release, which is expected sometime in late December. There are no current date or time projections for when the Xbox One version of the game will leave Xbox Game Preview to become a full game release.
