Project Rabbit, a Soulslike Based on Alice in Wonderland, Has Just Been Announced

While many video games create brand new worlds and characters for players to interact with and explore, others take advantage of the wealth of well-known stories told throughout history. In some cases, this can lead to bold interpretations of the source material with vast tonal deviations. This seems to be the case with the recently announced Project Rabbit, a Soulslike dark fantasy title based in the world of the classic absurd fantasy, Alice in Wonderland.

From the first moments of the trailer for the new title. it becomes clear that the story of Project Rabbit will take a darker turn than its inspiration, twisting the bizarre elements of Alice in Wonderland into understandable yet broken world ruled by fear. The opening narration describes following the white rabbit that initiated the original story, now citing it as the cause for dark situation the player finds themself in. The main draw of the trailer is a boss fight against a faceless enemy, incorporating the telegraphs and dodge mechanics that are a staple of the genre.

In addition to the reveal trailer, developer novaflare also put up a Steam page that goes over the features of the game in greater detail. It explains that the world is the result of multiple dimensions colliding with one another. The new Abyss of Time is sealed away by the Blood Queen, and the player as Alice will be responsible for deciding the world’s fate before the seal is broken. Players are encouraged to experiment with their playstyles by using different weapons, abilities, and skills. They will also have the chance to call on allies or play through the game solo.

Many gamers grew up with the story of Alice in WonderlandProject Rabbit promises to offer those now grown gamers a chance to experience the story again through another lens. The game is currently set to release on PC.
