As time marches on, video game technology continues to advance, leaving those from the past behind and lost to time. But it’s thanks to fans of those games that, 10, 20, or 25 years later, they can come back and continue to bring in new and old fans of the series. Now, after more than 25 years, another game will be making its comeback thanks to the fans. POSTAL 2, a game over 25 years old, will now be released in spring 2027 as POSTAL 2 Redux, a rebuilt version of the game on Unity 6, and will be available for PS5, PS4, PS VR2, Steam, and the Quest.
POSTAL 2 Redux aims to rebuild the original in Unity 6 while preserving its player-driven sandbox and improving all gameplay systems. The game is being created in collaboration between Impact Reality and Running With Scissors, and was fully funded by fans on Kickstarter. “At its heart, POSTAL 2 Redux is a sandbox in the truest sense: players decide how each day unfolds, playing their way from mild-mannered to mayhem, in a living, reactive world where no two playthroughs are ever the same,” said Impact Reality CEO and co-founder Jasmine Uniza in a press release. “Returning alongside the POSTAL Dude is Champ, the series’ beloved canine companion and a longtime fan favorite, now upgraded with new ways to interact: pet him, bring him along, weaponize him, and more.”
POSTAL 2 Redux will have many new features, as the game is being completely rebuilt in Unity 6, enabling better performance across all hardware. The game also features a complete visual overhaul, higher resolution, and upgraded lighting, allowing the devs to bring Paradise to life in a new way. The game offers a living, reactive sandbox, allowing total player freedom so that no 2 playthroughs are the same, along with upgraded movement. The game also has a rebuilt NPC system and reforged combat and physics, making the world feel grander. Your loyal companion Champ has now been fully upgraded, allowing for more destruction and chaos. And finally, the game will officially debut on PlayStation with modern controls and console optimization.
POSTAL 2 Redux is an example of how important franchise fans are: even 25 years later, they will fund it, allowing it to return on modern technology; it’s truly a beautiful thing to see.
