Pokémon GO Fest 2025 Heats Up with Volcanion Debut and Exclusive Bonuses

Ever since its groundbreaking release in 2016, Niantic’s Pokémon GO has made history in the world of AR games, putting Niantic on the map. At its highest player count, Pokémon GO had approximately 232 million active users. As of November 2024, the estimated player count was 5.9 million, which is still considerable given the game’s expected decline. Regardless, Pokémon GO’s ability to retain millions of users over the years has provided Niantic with a substantial wealth of player data for various purposes, along with their additional comparably successful AR-based mobile games.

Niantic recently revealed the dates and details for Pokémon GO Fest 2025 via a post on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The post announces that tickets are now available for the event:  May 29–June 1 in Osaka, Japan, June 6–8 in Jersey City, USA, and June 13–15 in Paris, France. A link for ticket purchasing is provided beneath the dates.

In a second post released on X (formerly Twitter), Niantic addresses the Pokémon GO players who might not be able to travel for the in-person events, encouraging these fans to “join millions of Trainers around the world for the global event on June 28 and 29.” A link embedded in this second post directs readers to a page where the global tickets are on sale for $14.99.

The 2025 Pokémon GO Fest will feature a debut of Volcanion, the game’s the Steam Pokémon, and early access to Crowned Shield Zacian and Crowned Sword Zamazenta. The event’s ticket purchasers will receive exclusive event bonuses, including spawn rates for rare Pokémon and special research tasks. Early ticket buyers will also receive additional rewards, although the specifics of said rewards are currently unknown.

I am captivated by video games and how they function as a story telling medium. Mobile games, specifically, are increasingly complex forms of entertainment that can be played on the go. While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
