Since speedrunners have taken a liking to Yooka-Laylee, the game’s first major update will make things easier for them. The developer Playtonic Games detailed a few of the new features and improvements that will be coming to the game within the next few weeks. Many of these features are aimed for players who want to play Yooka-Laylee as fast as they possibly can.
The update that is in development will include “stuff like the optional ability to skip dialogue faster, bypass cutscenes or reduce those pesky gibberish voices, which should please the speedrunners among us,” Playtonic wrote in a post. The update will also improve the game’s camera “among other elements of “design polish.” The developer also included a clip of what an improved camera would look like.
A pre-launch patch was released to help improve the camera as well however, Yooky-Laylee’s poor camera still stirs up players. Players complain about it getting stuck at crucial times and also that it changes around often which causes other gameplay problems.
The main focus for new content however, is geared for players who embrace the game’s buggier parts. Yooka-Laylee contains many shortcuts for speedrunners. Since it’s launch last month players have discovered various skips and glitches that can help shorten a playthrough to less than 40 minutes.
This trick is a popular speedrunning strategy. If players can fine 100 of the games collectible pages then they can progress to the final boss. Using this glitch helps players cut right to the chase although players will still need to unlock various moves and upgrades for this to work. The game’ s current record is 34 minutes and 48 seconds but expect to see some even quicker times once Yooka-Laylee’s big update is out.
