PlayStation’s First State of Play Highlighted by Tons of Games for PSVR

After announcing the new video presentation last week, PlayStation unveiled their first episode of State of Play earlier today.  In the just over twenty minute presentation, the company highlighted a variety of games that are coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. Surprisingly, the video was dominated by games that are coming to PSVR this year.

With the main focus on a plethora of different PSVR titles, the video presentation started with the surprise announcement of Marvel’s Iron Man VR from the developers of République, Camouflaj. Next, it was announced that No Man’s Sky will finally get a long requested VR mode as part of the game’s upcoming Beyond update this summer. Following this, the highly anticipated VR crime game, Blood & Truth, from Sony’s London Studio finally got a release date of May 28 alongside a new trailer.

Another new VR announcement was that the widely popular horror franchise Five Night at Freddy’s is coming to PSVR with Five Night at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted. Other VR games Sony highlighted included Vacation Simulator, Minimech, Jupiter and Mars, Trover Saves the Universe, Everybody’s Golf VR, and Table of Tales. Elsewhere in the presentation, Pixel Opus’s upcoming game, Concrete Genie, got a new story trailer, and it was announced that the game will be getting VR support upon release. However, the game appears to have slipped out of its original Spring 2019 release window, and is now set to release this Fall.

Aside from PSVR announcements, Sony did showcase games headed just to PlayStation 4. The multiplayer dungeon crawler Readyset Heroes from Robot Entertainment was announced early in the show, and will release sometime this year. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled got a new trailer featuring skins for various characters based on the original PlayStation game along with content from the PlayStation 2 game Crash Nitro Kart. Devolver Digital and No Code’s sci-fi thriller Observation received a new trailer. With just a month until release, Days Gone received a new story trailer, and a gameplay dive that showcased the ability to overrun enemy camps with the game’s zombie-like Freakers.

The video presentation ended with a new trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 which highlighted the time travel aspects of the game’s story mode. In the trailer, many characters met themselves from different eras in brutal ways.  It would also show that the three classic characters Kung Lau, Liu Kang and Jax will be returning to the game.

Zachary Dalton: I have a major passion for video games, the stories they tell, and writing about them. Avid believer that video games present the best storytelling opportunities out of any media, and that needs to be conveyed. Former competitive Pokemon player. Attended university to study game development. Wouldn't be who I am today without games.
