Nightdive Studio’s System Shock Remake Shows Off Gameplay Video

Through the excitement of OtherSide Entertainment working on System Shock 3 and revealing an in-engine trailer, there has been something else happening along with someone else. Having previously mentioned in that article, the original System Shock was one of the most influential games for sci-fi and horror. It brought in one of the most iconic sci-fi villains of all time, SHODAN. But given that it was made back in 1994, it doesn’t hold up too well in the sense of graphics.

But in 2012, developers Nightdive Studios purchased the rights for both System Shock and System Shock 2 from the Star Insurance Company after the original studio shut down. So when Nightdive had gained the rights, they began to work on a new title known as System Shock Remastered, however, they eventually switched it back to just System Shock. In 2016, they created a Kickstarter with a goal of $900,000 USD to make sure that the game would be the best that it could be, and to demonstrate their commitment and passion to recreating this cult classic. The goal was met with 19 days left in the campaign, and Nightdive ended up with $1.35M USD. The date was set for 2017 for its release.

However, 2017 came along and they had to delay the release date to 2018. That was where it stood, but as 2018 came and went, there was still no sign of the game. However, just a couple days ago Nightdive released a 21 minute gameplay preview of the Medics Station. It showed off Citadel, the trusty metal pipe, the mutants that roam and stalk the halls, a few puzzles, some audio logs, and none other than SHODAN herself:

Sadly, because of the trailer for System Shock 3 dropping that day as well, the gameplay trailer for System Shock got a little overtaken. But that isn’t to say it isn’t good, in fact, the recreation of Citadel is practically spot on. The look, the feel, everything about it is completely updated and looking extremely polished. Although, Nightdive claims that this footage isn’t all the way with where they want it to be, as there are missing effects, sounds, and enemies. But what is there is not only promising, but a complete callback to the 1994 original.

For the time being, Nightdive Studios claims that System Shock will be coming out sometime in 2020.
