PlayStation Showcase Announced For Next Week May 24th

Sony’s long-awaited PlayStation Showcase has finally been announced, premiering next week May 24th. The event will be an hour long, and will include games coming to both the PlayStation 5 and PSVR2. Sony announced the event via their PlayStation Blog, with the start time being 1 pm PT/3 pm EST/9 pm GMT. The showcase will be live-streamed directly from PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

Fans can expect updates to current games, previously teased games and even exciting new premieres for unannounced titles. In the past few years, Sony has purchased numerous studios for their first-party lineup, such as Insomniac and Housemarque. It would come as no surprise for Sony to go all out with what these and many other PlayStation Studios developers have been in the works making for the past few years now.

Currently, PlayStation’s next major release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which releases later this year, is expected to be a Game of the Year contender and another massive success for Sony. It would be no surprise for Sony to feature lengthy footage during the hour-long presentation. There’s also Marvel’s Wolverine currently in the works from Insomniac, while it remains unclear whether it’ll feature any new information, it’s yet another game that Sony could net huge profit from if all goes well once the title releases.

Sony is also riding high with The Last of Us hype, as the first season of the HBO show just wrapped up, and Season 2 remains in the work— though on hold due to the WGA strike The Last of Us will now venture into a multiplayer genre. There’s only been concept art teased by Naughty Dog, the setting of an infected San Francisco, however more information on the game could make an appearance next week during the event.

Rumors remain swirled about for whatever could be coming during the showcase, from a Metal Gear Solid remake, to yet again Bloodborne remaster or sequel which fans have been wanting to see for years now. Whatever may come next week, Sony is sure to make it a flashy event sure to exceed expectations.
