In an announcement on the morning of May 18th, PlayStation’s Official X account stated that certain new customers will see price changes for 1 month and 3 month subscriptions.
According to Gematsu, this will be a “$1 / £1 / €1 increase” for 1 month subscribers and an 3 dollar, euro or pound addition for 3 month subscribers, as PlayStation noted that 1 month Subscriptions will now be “$10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP” and 3 month subscriptions will now be “$27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP.” Nothing else will change for regular subscribers, apart from those in Turkey and India who might be subject to price increases, unless their subscription “changes or lapses.”
According to PlayStation the reason for this choice is due to “market conditions.” This comes after, according to IGN, Sony Interactive raised the prices for PS5 consoles, so this is the second time that the brand is raising its prices for PlayStation Gaming recently. Due to this, some PlayStation fans are upset, as IGN notes that there has been some push back on the prices, PlayStation Plus’s existence and the “market condition” reasoning.
Another reason, Ign states that could be the reason for this price increase that’s happening, could be due to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, as IGN noticed that only people with subscriptions can play GTA Online, thus this may be one of the reasons that caused the price for their PlayStation Plus subscribers. However the brand has continued to stick by its choice and has not made any changes to its existing update, despite the outcry, and has taken to promoting new PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games for customers.
