The PlayStation 5 had production problems since its launch in 2020, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to many potential buyers unable to get access to the highly sought-after console. However, it appears that there will finally be change on the horizon. According to David Gibson, Senior Analyst at MST Financial, Sony saw increases in September 2022 based on data and his own speculation.
Gibson alleged that supplies for the US shipments of PS5 have improved over the past few months, following Sony’s continuous failure to meet the demand for the system since its launch. The shipments were reportedly up by 400% in September and it will likely continue to grow just in time for the holiday season.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, Gibson speculated that the rapid rise in PlayStation 5 production is tied to the holiday season and the upcoming release of God of War Ragnarok. Considering the fact that God of War Ragnarok has been widely anticipated since its announcement, it may not be a stretch to believe that PlayStation would use the opportunity to push out more units.
The uncertainty surrounding the PlayStation 5 supply continues to stay no matter Gibson’s speculation. Sony has expressed in the past their desire to relieve shortages of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2, and while Gibson’s analysis seems to back those claims, there is still much more information missing. However, even with the possibility of price increase, there is still hope that the PlayStation 5 will sell well this holiday season.
