Phantasy Star Online 2 first rolled out in Japan about six months ago, the hit Xbox One and PC in North America, followed by Europe and the rest of the world this August. The game is free on Steam and reached 35,000 players when the game released out on Steam. Phantasy Star Online 2 has started releasing more incentives to play with double XP, double rare loot drops, and double the spawn rate of rare enemies and 100,000 XP login bonuses. The bonuses began on August 19th and will conclude August 26th.
With the support of the game being free, its cross-platform and cross-progression capabilities boosting the game somewhat, and now the game has reached a million strong player base and it is growing. It was the community hitting the episode 3 goal: Fleet Oracle that prompted the rewards to given out in the first place.
The community around the game is still expanding and there is the Phantasy Star Online 2, New Genesis DLC in the works for 2021 release. New Genesis is a re-imaging of the Phantasy Star Online 2 in a modern context. Sega has been scant on offering details on the DLC or how it will be launching. It can be a standalone launch or just a major update. “One of the goals for PSO2: NGS is to create the ultimate PSO2 in which the time-tested elements are kept intact, while the game design, gameplay, and graphics engine will be completely redesigned and reborn in all aspects,” Takuro Yoshihara, Marketing Manager commented.
New Genesis is expected to help stimulate the popularity of the game even more so. As the community grows on PC and Xbox One, Sega will plan to keep updating and adding more elements into the game. They are planning to keep evolving the universe as time goes on.
