Earth has been locked in an endless winter in Permafrost and now players can test their survival skills in this vast frozen world as the game has launched for Early Access on Steam. For those unfamiliar with the game, it is a story-driven open-world survival game. A series of catastrophes has caused the moon to shatter and players explore this cold world as Rook, an engineer with little wilderness experience. He ventures out in search of his long-lost friend, who has managed to contact him via a radio signal.
Players can explore the world, restore abandoned shelters, fix broken tech, and encounter other survivors. If they’re lucky, the survivors they come across will be willing to trade with them. However, some might attack the players to take their scraps instead. These other survivors can be raiders or from other factions. It is up to the players to decide who is trustworthy in this unforgiving world.
The early access version allows players to explore frozen cities, forests buried underneath snow, and caves. There are also camps they may come across with rare loot to collect and secrets to discover. Players will have to brave cold zones to gather resources useful for crafting tools and building a shelter.
They don’t have to brave the cold alone as they have a loyal dog at their side. Their companion can warn players of nearby dangers, scout ahead, and assist with carrying supplies. There is also a multiplayer feature with an up to four party online co-op, so players can bring their friends along in this survival journey.
Along with the Standard Edition, there is a Companion and Ultimate edition for players to choose from. The Companion Edition contains the base game along with the Official Companion digital book. The Ultimate Edition includes the Companion book along with an Official Cookbook, the game’s original soundtrack, and the Permafrost novel. Currently, the game has an introductory sale that is a 20% off discount from the original price $24.99. Players interested in the game should get it now before the sale ends on October 23rd.
