PAX East: Hands on With Night Call

Night Call was originally announced back in 2017 by developers Raw Fury. It was presented as a hard noir investigation thriller where players take on the role of an Arabic taxi driver in Paris, France who’s been the only one to survive an attack from the famed killer “The Judge”. A police officer hires you on as an informant to question certain people that you pick up.

The demo at PAX East was set during the first night that the Taxi driver returns to his job. The police officer talks about the deal with the driver becoming an informant and then the player can go and choose the first person they want to pick up.

The first person I had picked up was a white man, a programmer, who believed the world to be a simulation. He asked questions about what the driver believed in, about whether or not he was afraid of the information that the world might not be real. The second person I picked up was a young Indian woman who was being married off by her parents and she was heading off to meet the man she was to be with. The night ends with the driver going back home and looking over the information he’s gathered during his shift and images of people he’s meant to question. And it ends with how much money he made during his shift.

The game was quick with making players understand that the people they pick up are all going to bring some type of deep conversation and questions of morals, reality, and most likely a lot more. With an absolutely amazing sounds track and interesting and empathetic characters, Night Call seems to be going in the right direction.

Night Call is expected to be out Summer of 2019 and will be available for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
