Warhammer 40,000 and CRPG fans have been waiting with baited breath ever since the announcement of Owlcat’s second foray into the grimdark universe of 40,000, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. With an alpha coming out on Steam on December 16th, player can partake in the alpha by becoming Founder on Owclat’s official Dark Heresy website. For those on the fence, or who are waiting for further information, we’re lucky enough to have some new screenshots to share and inform your decisions.
Here we can see Owlcat’s continued advancements both graphically and in the cinematography department. Long gone are the days of the top-down cutscenes of character models staring at each other in Pathfinder: Kingmaker, we now have gorgeous detailed 3D environments and the camera pans to really show them off while still maintaining the CRPG charm.
Of course, Owlcat games are famous for their gameplay, and we can see a preview of the tactical combat here. As with the jump from Pathfinder: Kingmaker to Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, expect Dark Heresy to be a further evolution of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, being a much smoother and more customizable experience compared to its predecessor, taking all the lessons Owlcat learned from their last foray into the galaxy. Though back to graphics for a second, the Melta shots are looking extra crispy now.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is looking to be the next big step in Owlcat’s evolution as they make their way towards Dark Heresy’s alpha, and its release date sometime in the future. As stated, Dark Heresy’s alpha is available on their website for fans who buy the $79 Founder edition Developer’s Digital Pack. Though if you’re unsure or would prefer to wait you can wishlist Dark Heresy on Steam as well as GOG and Epic Games Store. Players can also look forward to a console release on Playstation 5 as well as Xbox Series X|S.
