Originally, Outriders was supposed to be released during the holiday season last year, but they officially announced that the game was set to be released on February 2, 2021. However, that will not be the case anymore as Square Enix and developer People Can Fly have announced today that the game has been delayed a couple of months and will launch on April 1, 2021. However, just because the game is moving its release date doesn’t mean nothing will happen next month. Instead of the full game, Square Enix and People Can Fly have announced that a free demo will be available for everyone to try the game on February 25, 2021. The demo will give anyone who wants to try the game a chance to play the first few hours of the game with all four classes available to play as. Players can play the game in both single-player and co-op and progress made in the demo can be transferred over to the full game.
Outriders is a new drop-in-drop-out co-op shooter set in an original, dark and desperate sci-fi universe where you play as an Outrider, part of an elite force of pioneers and explores tasked with securing a new home for humanity as Earth is gone and no longer able to sustain life. As the expedition you are a part of touches down on the mysterious planet Enoch, you discover a mysterious signal and storm called the Anomaly. The story begins after you get caught up in the Anomaly and undergo a change that comes in the form of the four classes. The story itself revolves around you and your comrades trying to understand what the mysterious signal is.
As you try and understand what the signal is and explore Enoch, you’ll come across the many dangers that this new world has to offer. In order to fight back, you’ll gain access to a set of powers after choosing between four classes: Trickster, Pyromancer, Devastator, and Technomancer. Each class plays a little differently and will have its own skill tree.
The Trickster is a hit and run damage dealer that can bend the law of time and space, allowing you to slow your enemies and teleport around the battlefield. The Devastator class controls gravity and uses the earth to crush enemies. The Pyromancer utilizes the power of fire and is a medium to long-range type of fighter. Pyromancers can make enemies explode when they are tagged with fire. Technomancers utilize gadgets to fight by spawning weapons like turrets, grenade launchers, and more.
