Original Star Fox Developer Interested In Making A New Game For The Nintendo Switch

Dylan Cuthbert, a designer who worked on Star Fox and its sequel Star Fox 2 recently took part in a Reddit AMA where he answered a few questions about his past and possible future works. After his initial start at Argonaut software he founded Q-Games, made the Pixiejunk series, Star Fox 64 3DS, and also The Tomorrow Children. During the Reddit AMA the topic of Star Fox came up quite a bit as expected, but when asked about whether or not he was working on any new titles for the Nintendo Switch he stated, “I would love to and I have a few quite original ideas to try out for that style of gaming, but we aren’t developing anything yet.” He also added that he would be very interested on working on another Star Fox title if Nintendo showed interest in the project. Even though he expressed that he would be willing to participate in these works he also stressed that no such projects were in the works at this time.

Cuthbert, also shared some details about what inspired the Arwing walker mode mechanic in Star Fox 2. “I think it’s just that we all grew up with Transformers/Gundam and transforming robots and it seemed a natural fit.” He also said “We also wanted to experiment with foot based gameplay and a lot of our initial experiments were platform gamer based (of course back then 3d platform games didn’t exist so these early experiments were to prove for Miyamoto that something like Mario 64 could be made). This was all back in 1993 immediately after launching Star Fox.”
