Optillusion Will Launch A Unique Adventure Game ‘While Waiting’ on February 5

Developer Optillusion has just announced their adventure game that explores the act of waiting, While Waiting will launch on both the Nintendo Switch and PC on February 5 Gematsu reports.

You assume the role of Adam and experience a range of moments throughout his life; Childhood through adulthood. The game focuses on the waiting periods in life and you’ll find yourself in many situations where you’ll have to wait. While Waiting does feature explorable environments containing easter eggs and puzzles. The game also contains 100 levels of waiting challenges, with an emphasis on developing patience.

Founder of Optillusion Dong Zhou was interviewed by Cgmagonline and asked what the inspiration for While Waiting was and how it was fully realized, he had this to say “The inspiration for While Waiting came from our daily lives, particularly from those moments when we’re stuck waiting and naturally seek ways to entertain ourselves (if we are not playing with our phones). We thought this could be quite interesting if we could make a game that you can clear by doing nothing, but you can also explore and find a lot of things to do, just like an achievement-hunting game. At the beginning, the game has a smaller scope, but we do love the whole story of the game, and we thought it has the potential to be deeper and thought-provoking, so we took more time diving into this game. Since most of our levels have one-off gameplays, it is very challenging, but I hope it‘s worth it.”

It should be noted that the developers have added their own comedic flair to the game, Dong Zhou emphasizes “Our thesis is all about the wow moment. While Waiting certainly has a wackier and more whimsical vibe…” speaking in relation to the group’s previous work Moncage. While Waiting has certainly stepped out of the box, hopefully players will be ready for this one once it releases.
