Onimusha: Warlords Gets Remastered in January

Capcom’s Onimusha: Warlords is getting remastered for current-generation consoles and is now available for pre-order. Originally released for the PlayStation 2 back in 2001, Onimusha: Warlords will take players back into the legendary world of the samurais with newly recorded Japanese voiceovers and a brand new soundtrack.

In the world of Onimusha: Warlords, the traveling samurai named Samanosuke Mitsuhide Akechi has received troubling news of disappearances at Inabayama Castle. This all takes place after rulers and factions in Japan have failed to unite the country. Samanosuke, a master swordsman, travels to Inabayama Castle to investigate the missing Princess Yuki. She was abducted just before he shows up and he must team up with a ninja ally to overcome to ferocious demons that pose a  threat. He cannot face them properly until the ogre clan grants him an unknown gauntlet with the terrifying power to make him stronger upon the death of each of his demon enemies. Check out the remaster’s gameplay trailer below:

The combat in Onimusha: Warlords can be rewarding to players that patiently wait for an enemy to strike, as counterattacks can defeat demons in a single blow. Also, powerful magic can be used to get players out of tight situations. The gauntlet that is bestowed to Samanosuke is what allows him to increase his health and power. Absorbing the souls of enemies will make weapons more powerful and restore health. Players will also have to chance to play as the ninja, Kaede, as the story progresses. She uses faster attacks and her speed in battles against the demon race.

Along with upgraded graphics, the remaster will allow players to freely change between the original display ratio and widescreen. The widescreen mode has added a screen scrolling feature as another option for character movement. Movement can now also be controlled using analog sticks to grant quicker changes of direction. Finally, Capcom has included an Easy Mode that is available at the very start of the game for new players to the franchise to jump right in.

The Onimusha: Warlords remaster is set to release on January 15, 2019 and is available to pre-order on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam Store.
