The main protagonist for Third Strike is back and he’s slightly smaller and more covered in leather than ever!
Street Fighter faithful with find that a lot of Alex’s iconic moves from his debut appearance in Street Fighter III: Third Strike make their return here with the Power and Hyper Bombs, the Flash Chop, and of course his big boot (conspicuous by its absence are his headbutt variants and induce stun). For those that want a detailed breakdown of what his moveset will actually be like, there’s detailed breakdown on Street Fighter 6’s Steam page.
There are two things that will jump out to most people here: First, they got rid of his charge motions. For those that aren’t in the know, Alex was famously a hybrid grappler/charge character, probably one of the few in fighting games as a whole. Charge characters aren’t very popular though, and Capcom have been moving away from charge motions, sadly, so many people saw this coming. After the homogenization of Sagat’s zoner gameplay, no doubt there are many players up in arms about the changes to Alex’s moveset.
But for those with a progressive mindset towards Street Fighter 6’s changes to legacy movesets, the other most notable thing about Alex’s gameplay is his Prowler Stance:
“Introducing Prowler Stance, a new star to Alex’s move set that will keep opponents on their toes. First off, Alex can’t block while in this stance, but that won’t matter with the 11 different follow-up options.”
11 follow-ups is absolutely insane, and sounds like a nightmare for any opponent who isn’t paying close attention to what Alex is doing. A lot of Alex’s legacy moves are made out of Prowler Stance, such as his DDT or his stomp. It’s also a reference to how Alex used to be a charge character, as charge characters usually spend all round crouching, with the Prowler Stance emulating how a crouching looks.
This trailer is a little premature, Alex himself won’t be releasing for Street Fighter 6 until March 17th, 2026. But a more proactive trailer release may indicate a more proactive approach to content in general, so look forward to Alex’s release in two months and keep an eye out for any future news!
Oh and also, one of the follow-ups to Alex’s Level 2 Super is beat-for-beat a move used by professional wrestler Kenny Omega, who did the mocap for some of Alex’s moves, which is pretty cool.
