It looks like we could be seeing yet another entry from Hideo Kojima’s most recent IP. Speaking in an interview with Brazilian publication Adorocinema, actor and video game motion capture artist Norman Reedus stated that a sequel to Death Stranding is “in negotiations.” Since neither Kojima nor his production company have made any official statement, this should only be regarded as a rumor for the time being. Reedus didn’t give up a whole lot of information in this interview, but it opens up a whole plethora of options for the potential sequel to Death Stranding.
Reedus was actually doing the interview for The Walking Dead, but the conversation briefly turned to his well known stint in Kojima’s Death Stranding. “I think we’re doing a second Death Stranding.” Reedus said. ” [Death Stranding] is in negotiations right now. So… yay” Nothing further was apparently mentioned from the interview but considering that it’s Reedus saying it the statement might not be to far fetched. Reedus of course played Sam Porter Bridges, the main protagonist of Death Stranding, and was heavily involved with the overall development.
Reedus’s comments over a potential sequel is not that surprising. Kojima himself has been considering sequel since the end of 2019, and we wouldn’t put it past him to, at the very least, explore the possibility. Death Stranding was Kojima’s long awaited passion project, one that he started after his very public break up with his long time employer Konami. The game went onto be nominated for several Game of the Year Awards in 2019 and has since been ported to the PC platform, and special Director’s Cut edition coming to the PlayStation 5. The title has also gone onto sell more than 5 million units.
