No Man’s Sky Sentinel Update Adds a New Companion, Enemies, and Weapon Systems

In what continues to be the longest-running “rebuild” of a video game, No Man’s Sky has received yet another massive update with a ton of new content. Dubbed Sentinel, this update changes the aspect of the title’s overarching exploration theme and introduces some tension with some seriously dangerous enemies to deal with. The update also offers players a brand new companion feature, as well as a major overhaul on the battle mechanic making it as if you can actually defend yourself.

As we already mentioned, Sentinel includes a giant mechanical companion that you can actually ride around when traversing new landscapes. This will come in handy as the titular Sentinel robot enemies have been bolstered to include some new enemy types. This includes heavies, summoners, repair units, and hardframe exomechs to name a few. The Sentinels can now deploy their own energy shields to block incoming attacks, as well as being able to use grenades and flamethrowers to really ruin your day.

We already mentioned the incredible longevity of this title, especially considering that it was teetering on the brink of being abandoned after a botched launch. Somehow Sean Murray and company managed to recoup, continue working on post-launch patches and content, and breathe new life into No Man’s Sky. That is an extremely rare feat to accomplish in the ever-evolving video game industry, especially when new IPs and other titles are releasing at a breakneck pace. Oh, and Murray stated that he isn’t done with adding more content to the title, “We tend not to talk about what’s on that list publicly but suffice to say we’re not done yet by a long shot.” It’s safe to say that we’re in for more No Man’s Sky for the foreseeable future.
