Through years of updates and additions, No Man’s Sky has cultivated some of the most loyal and eager players possible, and each update continues to give those fans more of what they want. Following up on the celebrations of the game’s 10th anniversary, the game’s latest update, Cosmos, brings a long list of features to the game, along with elements that players were convinced could never arrive to the sci-fi exploration title.
To coincide with the release of the update, Hello Games put out a trailer and additional details on the game’s official website as has become standard for their updates. The presentation captures the scale of the coming update, which adds both massive space stations and alliances that span the entire galaxy. The stations themselves serve as an opportunity for base-building, allowing players to customize both the interior and exterior by proving themselves to galactic authorities. Those stations can then be used as a base of operations for a new alliance, which players can design from the ground up and recruit others into.
In addition to the stations of players, deep-space outposts will also be available for exploration. These serve as opportunities for trade and can be used to process the galaxy’s rare minerals. Even deeper, players can find derelict husks that have long been abandoned. Inside, they will be challenged to collect as much technology and scrap as they can before the structurally integrity fails. All of these locations can be viewed using the new star system map feature, which allows players to respond to signals and mark points of interest. In addition to the major additions to station and deep-space exploration, smaller features such as new tools and companions have also been added to the update.
Given the limited scope of the initial release, many players believed that space stations were out of the question even for a future update. With their addition, the Hello Games team has proven that updates show no sign of slowing or diminishing yet. The Cosmos Update for No Man’s Sky is available to play now.
