Channel37 Ltd’s debut game The Last Caretaker is coming to Xbox sometime next spring, as announced in a trailer via Xbox social media platforms. Self described as a “first-person survival-crafting game about systems, choices, and purpose,” players take on the role of “the last active Caretaker, a machine built for one purpose: save humanity.” Despite being a debut title, the game has seen immense success on Steam, accumulating over 8,000 ‘Very Positive’ reviews while still being in early access. Additionally, the trailer’s caption brags of having sold over 400,000 copies before The Last Caretaker’s official release.
When humanity was forced to flee Earth, the world fell silent, but humans were never meant to live among the stars. Desperate and on the brink of extinction, they looked back to the world they had left behind.
The trailer’s narration sets the scene before further explaining the tasks required of the last Caretaker. These tasks are as follows: “to explore what the world has become, uncover the forgotten secrets that may hold humanity’s future, repair the systems that once failed, [and] reclaim a past from the danger that has spread.” Additional assignments include “recover[ing] human seeds, restore[ing] the Lazarus Complex, and prepare[ing] the next generation for launch into orbit.”
While actively being in development, the team at Channel37 Ltd has shared a rough timeline of updates until the game’s release, stating “Update 6.0 [is coming] to PC in early October. Then the road continues toward Spring 2027.” Following The Last Caretaker’s release, Channel37 Ltd does not intend to halt development, sharing that “when we reach 1.0: We do not stop.” They later assure players, saying “1.0 is a milestone. Not the end,” instructing them to “continue the directive.” The game is currently available on Steam for early access, and can be wishlisted before its Xbox release on Series X and S consoles. On launch day, The Last Caretaker will also be available to subscribers of Xbox Games Pass.
