Studio KADATH, which was founded by producer Yoichi Miyaji, has officially announced its first title, the dark fantasy RPG Under Mythos. The game is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2028. Alongside the announcement, a teaser trailer was released that introduced the mysterious atmosphere and key concept of the project. Miyaji previously produced the LUNAR and GRANDIA series, and the team includes creators with credits on Pokemon, Tales of the Abyss, GRANDIA, and LUNAR.
Set in a strange otherworld, players experience a story that begins with quiet coziness and then descends into madness. Early in the journey, players will take control of a lone cat that wanders into this realm in search of Mother. The cat discovers a mysterious hot spring inn where the inhabitants of the land come to rest and relax. Hoping to be reunited with Mother, the cat begins working at the inn, spending peaceful days welcoming and caring for its guests. An unpredictable disturbance soon creeps into that everyday life, and the familiar world transforms into something consumed by chaos.
During expeditions, players can utilize action-based combat while exploring dungeons throughout the realm in search of food and resources. The most notable feature is the blend of hot spring inn management and extraction-style gameplay. After returning safely from the dungeons, players use the materials and rewards they have gathered to support and expand the inn. Developing the establishment leads to new encounters and experiences that open the way to further exploration. Outside of direct combat, the peaceful days spent at the inn contrast against the grotesque beings and high-stakes dangers experienced during battles.
Under Mythos is currently in development, with the studio preparing a vertical slice to showcase its intended visual and audio direction along with core mechanics. The game is able to be wishlisted now, with a scheduled release on Switch and PC in 2028.
