As this year comes to an end, we tend to look back on our most memorable events before welcoming the new year. Today, Nintendo America looked back on their successful year and revealed their best-selling indie titles for 2021 in a short video posted on Twitter and YouTube.
With 15 indie titles mentioned, it’s safe to say that Nintendo Indie World had a very successful year. Here are some notable mentions from Nintendo’s video:
Curse of the Dead Gods is a roguelike action-adventure game where you are possessed by greed and go on a journey to collect mystical Relics in a dangerous temple filled with enemies and bosses. The game was developed by Passtech Games, published by Focus Home Interactive, and released for the Switch on Feb. 23, 2021. Curse of the Dead Gods is currently on sale for $13.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is 2D action-adventure RPG where players will follow Lily and the Immortal Knights’ journey through Land’s End to figure out the reason behind the kingdom’s destruction from the Rain of Death. It was released for the Switch on June 21, 2021. The game was developed by Adglobe and Live Wire and published by Binary Haze Interactive. ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is currently on sale for $18.74 on the Nintendo eShop.
Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is psychological horror game where you join a literature club at your school and spend time getting to know the club members. As a well-known PC game, it was finally released for the Switch on June 20, 2021, which included story extras and downloadable content in its revamped version. The game was developed by Team Salvato and published by Serenity Forge. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is currently on sale for $12.74 on the Nintendo eShop.
Spelunky 2 is a 2D action-platformer and the direct sequel to Spelunky but features a denser and bigger world with new NPCs, mysteries to solve, and multiple routes to explore. The game was released on Aug. 26, 2021, developed by Blitworks, and published by Mossmouth. You can purchase Spelunker 2 on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.
This list features the combination of Subnautica and its direct sequel Subnautica: Below Zero in a Nintendo Switch exclusive bundle. In both games, players will need to survive and submerge themselves into the waters of planet 4546B to discover its mysterious nautical life. The bundle was released for the Switch on Oct. 14, 2021 and was developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Subnautica + Subnautica: Below Zero is currently on sale for $35.98 on the Nintendo eShop.
As its name states, Axiom Verge 2 is direct sequel to Axiom Verge and follows the same story as the first game. However, Axiom Verge 2 is a new game on its own, where the 2D action-adventure “metroidvania” style game features new characters, enemies, and a new world to explore. The game was developed and published by Thomas Happ Games and was released for the Switch on Aug. 11, 2021. Axiom Verge 2 is currently on sale for $17.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
