Nintendo Gears up for Holiday Season with Cross Country Mall Tour

With Halloween officially here and the country preparing for fall festivities, Nintendo is already planning its holiday 2017 promotion that will let consumers demo Nintendo 3DS and Switch games in select malls across the country.

The Nintendo Holiday Experience is headed to 17 malls starting Nov. 11 running through Dec. 17. Among the major areas listed for the experience are Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. Over the experience’s five week run, shoppers can demo some of Nintendo’s recent hits like Mario Party: The Top 100Metroid: Samus ReturnsPokkén Tournament DXSuper Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This marks the first holiday season for the Switch, as it released this March, while the 3DS will see its sixth winter, since it debuted in 2011 (February for Japan, March for Australia, Europe and North America). The Holiday Experience is a way for consumers to also familiarize themselves with Nintendo’s products, which can sometimes be confusing because of the company’s naming trends (Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL, the New 3DS/XL line, 2DS, New 2DS XL).

“We want to bring smiles to people’s faces this holiday with experiences the whole family can enjoy,” said Doug Bowser, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America. “The Nintendo Holiday Experience is a great opportunity for people to try Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS.”

Game demos are the main draw of the experience but My Nintendo members will also get an additional perk. My Nintendo members who check in during the event will be awarded a Platinum Point card, which they can redeem for a variable amount of points, ranging between 100 to 500 points. The points can then be redeemed on the My Nintendo website for a variety of digital rewards like 3DS and Wii U games, discounts and smart device wallpapers.

Anthony Martinez: Video games have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My first was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. I imagined that I would someday be creating games, but I've decided video game journalism is my calling. I graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2017 with a Bachelor's in Journalism and a minor in Anthropology.
