Nintendo Delays 64 GB Game Cards Until 2019

According to the Wall Street JournalNintendo is reportedly holding off on releasing its 64 GB game cards to developers due to technical issues. Nintendo was hoping to give developers these larger capacity cartridges sooner rather than later, but due to this delay it looks likes the cards will have to be postponed until 2019. The largest Nintendo Switch cartridge is currently only 32 GB, and there have already been some issues involving storage and Nintendo Switch games. Titles such as LA Noire and NBA 2k18 require additional micro SDcards to accommodate for the systems very limited storage.

The Blu-ray discs used by the console’s rivaling counterparts, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 can hold up to 50 GB. Also, there have been rumors that 32 GB cards are more expensive for developers to sell games on. This could mean that the new 64 GB could be even more expensive for both developers as well as players. However, all of these notions are purely speculation at the moment and won’t be confirmed or disproven until Nintendo opens up about them or until the new game cards are debugged in the future.

The Wall Street Journal also stated that some U.S. based developers aren’t liking these limitations of the console and will be waiting to bring some of their certain titles to the Switch because of the delay. It would’ve been interesting to know what companies are waiting to bring some of their games to the hybrid console, but unfortunately none of these developers were named, so at this point only time will tell.
