Nintendo Announces Indie World Showcase For 4/17

Nintendo has announced an Indie World Showcase for later this week on Wednesday, April 17 focusing on indie games that are coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2024.

The showcase will begin at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET. Unlike February’s Partner Showcase, it will be livestreamed on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. It will run for about 20 minutes, which is similar to the length of past Indie Worlds.

An Indie World Showcase was released around this time last year on April 19, with another in November. The last showcase featured the yet to release Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution and a port of the popular space time loop game Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition.

As is often the case with Indie World presentations, many will be watching with the hope to get more information on Hollow Knight: Silksong, which has not been seen for about two years. In the past two weeks, the highly anticipated title has been listed on the Xbox Store with an ESRB rating and just appeared with a rating in Australia, suggesting that a release for the game is coming soon.

This showcase could be an outlet for its release date reveal, but there is no guarantee – fans have been expecting it to make an appearance in an Indie World Showcase for years with no luck.

The showcase is only focusing on games that will release in 2024. Though this is often the case for mid-year Directs, it is possible that this is in part due to the Nintendo Switch’s successor, which is rumored to be releasing in March 2025.

Nintendo’s first-party lineup for the rest of 2024 is currently sparse as the Switch nears the end of its life, with only the remaster of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year DoorLuigi’s Mansion 2 HD, and Endless Ocean Luminous currently on the docket for the remainder of the year. These indie games should help round out the lineup for Nintendo.

Alex Andahazy: I have been playing games since my childhood, and am constantly looking to expand my horizons. I have always been a Nintendo fan at heart, but in recent years I've moved to a much wider variety of genres and platforms.
