According to Team Cherry, they stated that the game had been in development since mid 2017, originally intended as DLC for Hollow Knight. The team realized that the new content they were creating became too large and unique to remain as such, and decided to formalize it into a brand new project. New features will be implemented to the series, such as new enemies, bosses, and new challenge mode called Silk Mode.
In addition, Hornet plays differently than the Knight from the previous game in the series. as she appears to be much more nimble with her lancer strikes. The visuals retain the signature Hollow Knight look, a 2D side-scrolling platform where you traverse your way around the levels unlocking secrets and completing objectives. On top of that, the award winning composer from the last game, Christopher Larkin, returns to score yet another orchestral score for the series.
There was no release date given for Hollow Knight Silksong, but it will launch for the Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux, with other potential consoles after that. However, for those who contributed to Hollow Knights kickstarter, the game will be completely free. Now that’s dedication to fans who have supported you Team Cherry.
