When the world’s gone and there’s nowhere left to go, you take the wasteland to another planet.
That’s the lesson Borderlands and Destiny learned – and certainly popularized in the gaming industry. French studio Spiders seems to be following in the footsteps of its galactic badlands predecessors with its upcoming RPG, The Technomancer, while injecting its own takes on the storytelling genre. Spiders released a new trailer for the game today, which can be viewed below:
Set during the so-called War of Water, The Technomancer follows a man named Zachariah, who is on the run from the planet’s secret police. As seen in the video above, colonial Mars is not a comfortable place (unless you are a member of its elite class). Wealth disparities seem to be rampant, and just beyond civilization’s walls lie hostile creatures who are more than happy to make wayward adventurers their next meal.
Like most open-world RPGs, the player will be able to customize Zachariah’s weaponry and mental abilities, which appropriately involve a fusion of technology and some kind of psychic force. Players will also be able recruit companions, and make moral choices with regards to quests.
The Technomancer is slated to release in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
