New Sacred 3 Trailer Released

Deep Silver have put out a new CGI Trailer for their upcoming Hack ‘n’ Slash game, Sacred 3.

The trailer touches on all of the Sacred series’s important aspects, such as teamwork, competitive gameplay, and a sense of humor. It features the game’s four classes battling a horde of monsters in the woods. Upon slaughtering everything in sight, the four fighters realize, via looking at the glowing kill counts above each of their heads, that they have all slain the same number of foes, much to their disappointment. This is when an eager, though diminutive creature joins the battle, albeit a tad bit late. The hapless creature can only scream in terror as the four heroes prepare to crush it in an attempt to get that last, precious kill.

The four heroes shown off in the trailer include the Seraphim, Safiri,Ancarian and Khukuri. The Seraphim looks to be an amazon warrior of sorts, combining swordcraft and spell casting. The Safiri, rather appropriately, is an African looking man wearing tribal-themed armor while wielding a giant axe. The lightfooted Ancarian wields a spear and has nature-based magic powers, and the Khukuri, clearly named after the Nepalese knife, wields a bow. A fifth character, Malakim, wields two curved blades and blood magic, but is only available to those who preorder. You can find out more information with our previous coverage.

Sacred 3‘s tagline, “Victory is ours. Glory is mine” emphasizes the game’s mixture of teamwork and competitiveness, in which players must rely on each other to overcome foes, but are encouraged at the same time to murder as many of them as possible to attain the highest score. At the conclusion of each battle, a scorecard will declare which player is the champion. This, according to Deep Silver’s press release, “establishes a delicate balance between friendly cooperation and cutthroat competition.”

Sacred 3  is being developed by Keen Games. The first two games in the series were developed by German developer Ascaron Entertainment, whose protracted development of Sacred 2 mired them in debt. The rights of the Sacred series were subsequently acquired by Deep Silver. There is some skepticism among Sacred fans that this new entry to the series will be dumbed down from its PC-centric roots to accommodate console players.

The game will be out for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on August 5 and August 1 for North America and Europe respectively.
