New Ratchet & Clank PS5 Title Announced: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

The newest title in the classic Ratchet & Clank series was announced today during the PS5 Future of Gaming live-stream event. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games announced the game during the conference on Thursday, confirming the launch of the game with the next-gen PS5 release. The teaser trailer released showcases Ratchet & Clank’s newest adventure through numerous large, and rather graphically intensive, worlds that span across multiple dimensions. The trailer also included a glance at the processing power of the PS5’s SSD, as the pair travel between worlds, loading in almost instantly. The newest title in the Ratchet & Clank series will be the first title in the series since the release of the “Hollywood-driven” Ratchet & Clank game from 2016 on the PS4.

Starting in 2002, the Ratchet & Clank series was developed by Insomniac Games and started with its first title, Ratchet & Clank for the Playstation2. The series has since had a number of sequels and spinoffs since its 2002 release. The newest trailer for Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart shows off a number of the unique worlds that players will be visiting, including a sci-fi inspired city, pirate ships and a world full of dino-like enemies. The trailer also showed off new weaponry, including a gun that appears to turn enemies into topiaries. New creatures that the pair would use to adventure through the worlds were also shown off, as well as what appeared to be a new Lombax, the species that the main protagonist Ratchet comes from. The release date for the title has not been announced yet, but it seems that the game may be releasing with the launch of the new PS5 console during the holiday season of 2020.
