New Need for Speed Game Announced for 2017

In a sneaky update on the Need for Speed website, EA promised a new title in the series to debut sometime in 2017.

A quick step back – the post overall, titled “Taking Stock,” is an “Under the Hood” update, detailing players’ support and accomplishments ever since the game was released in November of last year. The numbers truly are incredible – NFS players have “collected over 9.8 billion REP points, taken over 35 million Snapshots, raced in over 10 million Drag Races, and beaten a total of 52 million Eddie’s Challenge Events.” Players have spent 950 million minutes – or almost 15.84 million hours – customizing cars with the $2.5 trillion cash earned in-game. Over 700,000 wraps have been downloaded more than 13 million times – all in all, its some hefty stats that make up for quite a pretty graphic.

The game’s next update, SpeedList, will be “our last free content update for the game” – players will be able to earn bonus REP and extra in-game credit from all Drag Events, and decals can be unlocked by completing Daily Challenges.

Now all of this is absolutely fantastic for players, but the real story here is a quick throwaway paragraph towards the end of the post.

We are now building upon the foundations that have been laid with Need for Speed and delivering our nest game in 2017.

That’s not to say that we’re going quiet between now and then… far from it. We’ll be working with our community and there will be multiple opportunities to bring many of you into the studio in the coming months to get your feedback on where we’re headed.

With EA Play on the horizon, it’s not too much to hope that a bigger announcement is on its way soon. Either way, the success of Need for Speed and the clearly positive fan response promises great content for years to come.
