New Job Openings at Santa Monica Studios Suggest Next God of War Likely in Development

It looks like we’ll be seeing Kratos back in action sooner than later. A recent find last week by Gamesradar suggests that developer Santa Monica has posted several positions across the board specifying needs for variety of designers, artist and cinematic creators. Still no definite proof of if this game will be a DLC for the PS4 game or maybe a brand new project for the PS5. Regardless, fans of 2018’s God of War can rejoice because this info, as well as the couple teases that have been found of late, assures fans can expect new content or possibly even a new game in the future.

Among the several needed positions, two in particular give a good indication that the future of God of War is alive and well. The need for a Senior Combat Designer states, “Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies.” The second clear identifier is a Facial Blend Shape Character Artist, which specifically mentions “next-gen video game platform experience” which in turn will really narrow down the competition for this position given the lack of next gen game development.

Along with these job listings, there have also been some hints and teases on what exactly the next God of War may possibly be about or even be called. One such hint discovered in dynamic theme called “Your Journey Awaits” by u/leftfordonut from Reddit, found a series of Nordic Runes spotted etched across the boat that Kratos and Atreus are rowing in the theme. These runes are almost impossible to see but by zooming in and brightening the image they can be made out. The runes translated spell out “Ragnarok is Coming”.

If that is not enough, even more recently discovered by u/Kayfriso on Reddit found Barlog’s pinned tweet from April 21, 2019 initially looks like a string of post looking back at the memories of God of War’s development. However, Kayfriso noticed a pattern. Just like the previous tease, when you combine the letters of the first word of each tweet, “Ragnarok is Coming” is spelled.

Exciting news to know God of War is upcoming and we will expect more info in the future. During the wait, it will be interesting to see if fans will be able to find any more of these clues hinting to the next installment!

Nathan Arquiette: Mom and Dad would never buy me a gaming console growing up, so I bought my own Dreamcast when I was 10 years old. Ever since then my passion for gaming went wild. Why watch a movie or read a book when you can take part in the plot playing a game was my philosophy. "Video games rot your brain" but I had a 10th grade reading level in the 6th grade all thanks to RPG's. Talking and writing about games is something I will never get tired of.
