Breaking Walls Will Launch Kickstarter Campaign For AWAY: The Survival Series, New Gameplay Footage and Early Bird Bundle Revealed

Earlier this month, Breaking Walls announced that they would be launching a Kickstarter campaign for the studio’s upcoming “high-flying adventure” game, AWAY: The Survival Series. In this game, players will be able to explore a vast and beautiful world through the eyes of a wild sugar glider. Seek protection from one of your most threatening “enemies” in the wild: nature itself. Survive storms, fires, and predators as you adventure across forests, caverns, and swamps to reunite with your family.

Breaking Walls have also revealed brand new gameplay footage for the game, including the brand new featured ability: playing as other animals. You can view the video below.

According to the team, the campaign will help towards the implementation of a new game feature: the ability to play as other wild creatures. The story will still be about a sugar glider, however, players will now have the chance to shift into the body of various mammals and insects, including lizards, spiders, rats, deer, crabs, foxes, and even a praying mantis, each with their very own special abilities.

While the game tells the story of the Sugar Glider, we wanted to give you the opportunity to play as some of the other animials and insects you encounter in the wild. Each animals has its own unique trait and attributes, so you can experince the world of AWAY from a variety of new persepctives.

The video also shows off some of the sugar glider’s abilities, such as expert climbing, power jumps, and a graceful fall. Scale the clifts, then fall with style as you glide through trees and soar through the air. And don’t forget those master fighting skills for dealing with enemies such as a deadly scorpion. According to the sneak peeks, it would appear that our young protagonist is fully equipt with the resources need to embark on their dangerous journey.

While a draft is currently viewable on the site, the official Kickstarter campaign will go live tomorrow on June 25th. In a recent tweet, the team revealed an additional bonus offer. An “Early Bird Bundle” will only be available during the first day of the campaign.

In this bundle, they will be giving away free copies of three of their favorite nature-inspired games:

  • Shelter 2: Play as a protective mother lynx raising her newborn family. Teach your cubs the necessary skills and knowledge needed for surviving the wild tundra, such as hunting prey, encountering and avoiding danger, as well as dealing with the changing seasons.
  • The First Tree: Experience the parallel story about a fox searching for her family, and a son reconnecting with his father. Play as the fox and uncover lost artifacts of the son along your adventure towards finding The First Tree.
  • NicheEnjoy a learn-through-play, survival-simulation game inspired by real-life population genetics. Create your very own custom species and watch them interact with the world. Help your species to grow and develop despite predators, diseases, and natural selection.

AWAY: The Survival Series will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PC. While there is yet an official release date, the project’s Kickstarter page reveals that the studio may be planning to launch the game in the first quarter of 2020. Be sure to Wishlist the title on Steam to be notified of when it becomes available.
