A new interactive narrative game has just landed on Steam today, July 6. 2026. I’m Making a Monster is the second game to be developed and published by Zorkie Studios, who is also known for their cyberpunk style visual novel Quality Dreams, Reasonably Priced (2025). Quality Dreams, Reasonably Priced is akin to a sales simulator where players are trying to save their sick pet rabbit despite the ongoing downfall of modern day society. I‘m Making a Monster is similar to Quality Dreams in the sense that player choice has direct impact on the game’s ending, but different in the understanding that the storyline and themes are much, much darker and heavier.
Described as “part monster-dress-up game, part friend-dating simulator, and all how-not-to-deal-with-loss advice column, players operate as a mage or scientist, tasked with constructing the best possible monster they can following the loss of a close loved one. This mage-scientist is not a loner, however. It is up to the player to decide whether to acknowledge their friends’ concern, splitting their time between building the monster and hangouts, or to blow their friends off completely, allowing them to focus completely on their monster.
I’m Making a Monster features a wide range of player input, ranging from simple character design choices, like entering a name and selecting pronouns, to core decisions such as the best magic to “build the skeleton.” Players are also able to “wade through complex emotions to decide what they each mean” to them while interacting with friends, and change their ideas, thoughts, and perspectives in game as the seasons progress.
The development team at Zorkie Studios dedicate this game to their community and art, stating “This game is a love letter to friendship and to community. To those who feel an insatiable urge to create, and to those who lose themselves in their art.” I’m Making a Monster is currently available to download on Steam for both Mac and Windows users, with the brief launch trailer available below from the official Zorkie Studios YouTube Channel.
