The MOBA genre had a long stretch of glory and fame for some time with great hits that are still popular today such as League of Legends and Smite. Paragon started a new generation of MOBAs with a unique leveling system and gorgeous graphics. Unfortunately, it didn’t last with the rise of Fortnite and other Battle Royale games. The MOBA genre began to fade slowly and didn’t receive as much attention from developers.
Nevertheless, developer Rampage Games knows that MOBA’s are geared toward specific gamers and many still love the class-based teamwork they entail. Genesis is a console only MOBA that has been designed specifically for use of a controller and will be free-to-play starting tomorrow in the US and the following day in Europe.
Genesis is striving to take on the classic over the head MOBA experience much like League of Legends. Matches will be 5v5 and the arena will consist of three lanes and towers players must push through to reach the enemy base. One question many may wonder is how the traditional overhead play can be done properly with just a controller?
Executive Producer Ray Zhu doesn’t seem worried stating, “We really wanted to bring a true MOBA experience to consoles,” said Ray, “The biggest challenge, of course, was building the gameplay system for controllers. Keyboard and mouse have their advantages, but based on the feedback we received from our testers, I am confident we are equally prepared and players will feel right at home in GENESIS.” Genesis will start off strong with a decent cast of 24 heroes to choose from. Characters and level design take on a sci-fi theme with turrets resembling large mechs and heroes souped-up with futuristic weaponry and cybernetic augmentations.
For players still loyal to the MOBA genre and love their console games, Genesis may be a fresh new addition ready for fans. Genesis will be available free-to-play for PlayStation 4 tomorrow in North America and on August 14 in Europe. More information about the game can be found on its official website.
