New Ecosystem and Old Friends Join Monster Hunter World

A new video for Monster Hunter World from Capcom has veteran hunters pretty excited. Capcom released this video Friday showing the new area, Wildspire Waste, along with a whole host of the monsters that make their homes there.

The Wildspire Waste features a vast sandy desert with areas of muddy marshes where it connects with rivers from the Ancient Forest ecosystem that was initially shown.  The dry sand and wet areas make it great analogue to the sandy beaches and oasis’ of previous games. Hunters are encouraged to stock up on Cool Drinks and get ready to see some old (and new) friends waiting for them in this new ecosystem.

  • The Barroth, that shovel headed monstrosity that loves covering itself in muddy armor, is back! First introduced in Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii and 3ds, the Barroth was absent from Monster Hunter 4 and Generations. This Brute Wyvern lives up to it’s designation, looking beefy and ready to tear into the hunters!
  • Just a glimpse of the powerful and dangerous Diablos. First introduced in the original Monster Hunter for the PS2, Diablos is a powerhouse of muscle that can burrow through the ground and explode into action from under you.
  • Kulu Ya-Ku, a brand new bird wyvern that shares naming similarities to the Yian Kut-Ku, this new monster seems able to use tools and pick up rocks to use as shields.
  • An Unamed monster that looks an awful lot like that Lavasioth, makes it’s debut wriggling around in the mud.
  • A Chameleos-esque Wyvern, gives a hunter a tongue lashing.
  • Some massive, terrifying force emerging from a mine, that some speculate may in fact be the Equal Weapon Dragon.

We can’t wait to see how these monster interact within the sandy Wildspire Waste ecosystem, and what new challenges await players as they venture further into Monster Hunter World.
