MARVEL Mystic Mayhem is a new free-to-play mobile game recently announced by NetEase and Marvel. Their plans for the game were revealed on October 16th in an official announcement trailer. It portrays the game as a tactical RPG, although much of the actual gameplay remains under wraps. Players will be able to recruit fan-favorite characters from the Marvel franchise into their squad, including heroes like Iron Man, the Scarlet Witch, and Moon Knight, who briefly appear in the trailer. The game’s developer explains that “the game will place you into teams of three” and will be “aided by Doctor Strange and Sleepwalker from the sidelines,” according to Pocket Tactics.
Players will join forces with superheroes in order to prevent Nightmare and his lackeys from transforming dreams into twisted landscapes and plunging the world into chaos. In their official announcement article, Marvel states that the game will let players “get a glimpse into the deepest fears of Super Heroes.” Sleepwalker and Doctor strange must draw energy from the Mindscape and arm their allies “as Nightmare transforms their dreams into dangerous dungeons.”
MARVEL Mystic Mayhem follows the release of multiple successful Marvel mobile games, including MARVEL Strike Force and MARVEL SNAP, which has won multiple game of the year awards. Both of these mobile games are widely accessible and free-to-play, meaning that MARVEL Mystic Mayhem will need to establish its own niche within the Marvel franchise in order to attract potential players.
Marvel’s collaboration with NetEase bodes well for the game, following the extreme popularity of Marvel Rivals before its official release on December 6, 2024. The partnership between these companies has been ongoing, resulting in titles like Marvel Duel and Marvel Super War. Haluk Mentes, the GM of Marvel Games, expressed excitement and faith in their continued partnership.
MARVEL Mystic Mayhem continues our long-standing collaboration with the great team at NetEase Games and fully displays our shared passion for crafting amazing games that speak to the breadth of Marvel. NetEase has brought a fresh perspective and we hope players will love the unique style and gameplay within the mysterious and supernatural world of MARVEL Mystic Mayhem.
The Senior Vice President of NetEase, Ethan Wang, shared similar sentiments, stating that “continuing [their] partnership with Marvel Games allows [them] to leverage [their] expertise in the mobile space and build world-class games that reach global audiences.” NetEase is also currently partnering with Bungie to release Destiny: Rising, making them a relevant figure in the mobile gaming world as of late.
Although MARVEL Mystic Mayhem does not yet have a release date, it is being developed for both iOS and Android. According to Pocket Gamer, details regarding playtests for the game are likely to release soon. Interested individuals can pre-register for the game and find future updates on its official website.
