Earlier this year, Ghost Games, the team behind the Need for Speed series, announced that they would be “doing things a little differently this year,” in regards to a new game. The new game would stay true to the roots of the series, focusing on the cars and customization, what they call the “beating heart” of NFS. Choosing to sit out of the E3 conference this past June, the developers were fairly tight-lipped about what is in store for the series. However, a new countdown has appeared on the Need for Speed website, and it looks like they’re finally ready to reveal something big to the world.
It’s that time where we start talking about what’s next for NFS. We’re doing things a little differently this year: https://t.co/M1s8A288EC 👀🔥 pic.twitter.com/1K5p3DvFvr

According to the countdown, some sort of reveal will be made on August 14 at roughly 6 am PT. Based on their previous comments to the fanbase, one can only assume that a new game is on the way. A report by IGN from the end of last month states than an Australian retailer may have let the cat out of the bag early, revealing the new game’s title and preliminary box art. According to the report, the new game will be called Need for Speed: Heat. It would seem that the wait will not be much longer to see if the leak rings true.
Regardless of if Need for Speed: Heat is the title, there more than likely is a new game coming. When the Ghost Games team originally let loose the news about a new game in the works, they made a point to mention that it would be released sometime this year, and so far, no new announcements have been released to contradict that point. Eager fans can expect an announcement once the counter drops to zero on August 14, most likely via the Need for Speed social media channels, as well as their website.
