Developer White Paper Games have released an announcement trailer for a new British thriller game called I AM RIPPER. Gematsu shares that the title is slated for release on PC, to be made available on Steam and Epic Games Store. A release date has not been set for I AM RIPPER.
I AM RIPPER is set in 1988, in a small north-western dock town in Britain. The town has accounted for multiple victims that have been confirmed killed by a single killer. You will assume the role of a forensic investigator called upon to solve the series of murders. You’ll look for evidence and pursue the killer with your decisions affecting the outcome of your investigation and other character’s lives.
In the White Paper Games release shared on Gematsu “I AM RIPPER builds upon everything we’ve learnt about story delivery, tactile gameplay and meaningful consequence. It’s not a puzzle game, or a horror game, or a detective game, but it has all the key components of those genres to create something that feels rewarding, explorative of core themes and characters that feel real and grounded in their world.”
I AM RIPPER features a branching narrative; player choice will cause a ripple effect altering the timeline and cause the story to shift in different ways. The title also features tactile gameplay, according to its developers, maintaining high interactivity such as when examining evidence or cutting stitches. The title features the narrative direction behind titles Ether One and The Occupation, one of which has been nominated by Indiecade for its narrative.
White Paper Games aims for I AM RIPPER to be an immersive thriller, with branching narratives, while building on their tactile moment to moment gameplay. For fans of narrative-driven games, this may land gracefully once we get a firm release date.
