Yesterday, FIFA announced its partnership with Mythical Games to develop an upcoming free-to-play mobile game called FIFA Rivals. Mythical Games is a tech company specializing in blockchain-based video game experiences. Its most famous title, Blankos Block Party, is an open-world multiplayer game released in 2020. It features user-generated content and a marketplace for digital assets, allowing players to own, trade, and sell in-game items as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Mythical Games has since gained significant funding, raising $150 million in a Series C funding round and subsequently bringing its valuation to $1.25 billion.
The FIFA and Mythical Games partnership on FIFA Rivals was declared yesterday via a post on X (formerly Twitter). FIFAe introduced the game by stating that “a new chapter in football [was] on the horizon.” The post mentions Mythical Games’ involvement and asks gamers to prepare for the game’s release by hyping up their squad and “hitting the pitch.”
Mythical Games celebrated its partnership with FIFA for FIFA Rivals, in another same-day post on X. It explains that the game will utilize the Mythos Blockchain for buying and selling popular football stars. The game’s official X account is included in the post, and described as the best source for updates on FIFA Rival’s progression.
According to FIFA’s official press release on the subject, FIFA Rivals is a “groundbreaking, officially licensed, football mobile video game.” It will incorporate arcade style gameplay, allowing its players to run their very own football club, build and level up their lineups, and use them against other players in real-time PvP gameplay. The game’s partnership with Mythical Games will incorporate in-game and web marketplaces that utilize the Mythos blockchain.
For those interested in giving FIFA Rivals a try, the free-to-play mobile game will be available on iOS and Android devices in the summer of 2025, although an exact release date remains unspecified.
