Musician Lotte Kestner Accuses Neil Druckmann Of Copying Her Cover Of True Faith

The Last Of Us Part 2 is coming out in just a few weeks, but not without some controversy. According to IGN, singer/songwriter Lotte Kestner has accused Neil Druckmann on Twitter of copying her cover of the song “True Faith”. Lotte believes that the cover in The Last Of Us Part II is “replica” of her cover of the song. In her tweet Lotte states that she “wrote original parts not in the song  that are copied by whoever covered it.” She then goes on to say that she is “heartbroken.”

When comparing both versions to the original version, both versions include a humming section, with Kestner’s version a bit past the three minute mark, and the voice actress of Ellie, Ashley Johnson’s  version at the 45 second mark. The original Synth version does not include this detail, which is likely what lead Kestner to believe that Druckmann had copied her cover of True Faith. Whether this case can be taken to court is unknown at the moment as the piece is not Kestner’s original work, but merely her take on it. It is most likely that Druckmann gained permission for the usage of the song from the original creators of the song New Order. Whether the similarity is due to copying her cover or mere coincidence is unknown at this point. At the moment Naughty Dog has yet to respond to her accusation.

Aside from the controversy, players can also expect to find a number of improvements from the previous game with regards to enemies. According to an interview with Druckmann, players will be able to fight a brand new type of infected known as a Shambler, which can launch orbs of noxious gas at players that inflict corrosive damage, and obscure player vision. Stalkers have also received a number of improvements and become far more intelligent than they were in the first game, actually stalking the player instead of just charging at them.

Players will be able to enjoy The Last Of Us Part 2 on June 19th, 2020.
