Monopoly GO! Fans Voice Concerns About Upcoming Christmas Album Event

Developed by Scopely in collaboration with Hasbro, Monopoly GO! is the hit mobile adaptation of the Monopoly board game. The game was released only a year ago in 2023, but it has already grossed $3 billion. This makes it the first mobile game to achieve $3 billion in such a short period. Monopoly GO! is entirely free to download, which means that the game’s profit is generated almost entirely by in-app purchases.

The game maintains interest among its fans by continuously adding new features and events. One of the game’s latest events, dubbed “Friendship Pays,” went so far as to partner with celebrities in its first-ever global campaign. Keke Palmer, Chris Pratt, and Jason Momoa are all featured in the event’s promotional clips alongside Will Ferrel, who has taken on the Monopoly Man’s new voice. Monopoly GO! often features Album Events, which are special, limited-time challenges where players collect themed stickers to complete an album. Each album consists of sticker sets that reward players with in-game items like dice rolls, cash, tokens, and emojis upon completion.

Monopoly GO!’s current sticker album is the Marvel GO! album, which began on September 26, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on December 5, 2024. The album consists of 20 sticker sets themed after popular Marvel Superheroes. Along with its typical in-game rewards, players also have the opportunity to win items exclusive to the Marvel GO! album, like the Thor Finger Guns emoji and the Iron Man Shield.

While fans were originally excited by Monopoly GO!’s Marvel crossover, many players have expressed frustrations with the album. The general sentiment seems to be that since Green Packs now only provide a single card, the album has been significantly harder for players to complete. Fans feel that they are forced to spend unwanted time and/or money in order to complete the album, which had not previously been the case.

Monopoly GO!’s Jingle Joy album will begin after Marvel’s current album ends. It is set to run from December 5, 2024, to January 16, 2025, which will give players only 41 days to collect 16 sets of 144 stickers. The Marvel GO! album gives players a total of 71 days to collect 20 sticker sets totaling 180 stickers, and players have already expressed difficulties finishing the album in its allotted timeframe. The Jingle Joy album’s shortened time span and comparatively large collection of sticker sets already has Monopoly GO! fans concerned. Many players have claimed that there is no feasible way to complete the set without spending real money.

Players have flocked to Reddit in order to share their thoughts on the matter, with one user complaining about the event having 26 golds in 41 days and sardonically wishing the Monopoly GO! subreddit a “Merry Christmas.”

Another Reddit user claims that they have been pushed to quit the game after the Jingle Joy album ends. They admit that the Christmas album seems “so cute” but worry that it will be worse than the current one, which “is awful.”

Although many fans express discontent with Monopoly GO!’s recent album events, Game Rant believes that Scopely and Hasbro will not make any changes. Game Rant Writer, Dalton Cooper, states that “Monopoly GO! makes a ridiculous amount of money and is showing no signs of slowing down.” He finds it highly unlikely that “any potential backlash from the holiday event will really cut into the game’s revenue.” There is always the possibility that recent user feedback may shape future Monopoly GO! events, but only time will tell.

Users interested in downloading Monopoly GO! in time for the Jingle Joy album event can find it for free on the Google Play Store and App Store.

While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
