Mobile Gaming Dominating Finland

Finland is responsible for some of the first mobile gaming breakthroughs with the Finnish Game Awards routinely acknowledging many great mobile gaming entries every year. In fact, the nation has been seeing a rise in the gaming industry in general over the pass four years.

Mobile gaming has dominated the Finnish market for years and is still considered to be true to this day. However, some recent reports have shown that perhaps mobile gaming becoming less commonly used. According to Neogames, it would seem that more and more gamers in the nation have started resorting to using personal computers. In fact, personal computer gaming shares have risen from forty-six percent in 2020 to sixty-four percent in 2022 while mobile gaming shares increased from sixty-five percent in 2020 to sixty-six percent in 2022. The statistics show that the demand for mobile gaming has slowed down in recent years while computer gaming has been on the rise.

Finland’s gaming community has slowly been growing gradually over the years. In 2022, they generated over 3.2 billion euros, which equates to about 3.5 billion American dollars, in revenue. In 2020, Finland had generated about 2.4 billion euros, or 2.6 billion American dollars, in revenue, so the nation had about a thirty-three percent increase in gaming.

In addition, more gaming companies and studios have been established all around the nation. Starting with two hundred being documented in 2020, Finland now has about 232. As more opportunities have increased, the amount of employees have grown as well with there being 3600 in 2020 with about 4100 currently employed in gaming as of 2022. In fact, there has been a two percent increase on non-native Finnish citizens being employed at their gaming studios: it stood at twenty-eight percent in 2020 and was last reported to be at thirty percent in 2022.

The report shows a higher level of confidence in the Finnish market with these numbers. It highlights that the nation’s gaming industry has received over three hundred million euros, or about 325.1 million American dollars, in 2022 with a 150 million euro, or 162.5 million American dollars, invested in Supercell and Metacore.

The most remarkable aspect of the report is Finland surpassing 3.2 billion euros, which equals about 3.46 billion American dollars, in 2021, exceeding three billion euros, or 3.25 billion American dollars, for the first time. The fact that the Finnish market once again reached that milestone in 2022 proves the resilience of gaming in the nation.
