Minecraft Earth has slowly rolled out across mobile platforms around the world via early access opportunities for players since October, before officially launching in the U.S. on November 12. In its first week since that launch, the location-based augmented reality (AR) game surpassed 1.4 million downloads across mobile platforms, according to Sensor Tower data. Overall, the game has reached about 2.5 million downloads globally after its slow rollout.
Looking at Minecraft Earth on a global scale, the U.S. accounted for most of the game’s downloads in its first week, with 1.2 of the 1.4 million downloads during the week of November 12 coming from the U.S. This puts Minecraft Earth in third place behind Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s 3.1 million first-week downloads and Pokémon Go’s massively successful 32.7 million first-week downloads for app launches in the U.S. alone.
Great Britain and Canada saw the next most first-week downloads for Minecraft Earth, generating 71,000 and 37,000 downloads respectively. These numbers make up 5% and 2.6% of Minecraft Earth’s 1.4 million downloads in its first week, respectively. In terms of platforms, the App Store brought in the majority of the downloads, making up 1 million of the 1.4 million, which is 73.4% of the overall number. Google Play saw 376,000 downloads. As such, Minecraft Earth ranked number 3 for App Store game downloads and number 14 for Google Play game downloads in the U.S. on November 18, six days after the U.S. launch.
Minecraft Earth also saw financial success in its first week, as the game generated $93,000 in gross revenue overall in its week following the U.S. launch. The U.S. made up $86,000—92.8%—of that total. Players in Great Britain and Canada spent the next biggest amounts, generating $2500 and $1500 respectively. Once again, the App Store saw the most revenue, making $62,000 while Google Play picked up $31,000.
Following Minecraft Earth, the next Minecraft spin-off, Minecraft Dungeons, was recently revealed to be launching sometime in April 2020 for consoles and PC. Mojang has opened up registration for players to potentially get access to beta ahead of the game’s official release, which can be found on the developer’s website.
