Microsoft Plans to Raise Prices for Xbox Game Pass Subscriptions and Xbox Series X Console

Recently, Microsoft announced that they are planning to increase the prices of both their Xbox Series X console and their Xbox Game Pass subscriptions according to the VGC. These price changes will be happening in multiple countries around the world following similar price increases from Sony last August.

The price changes are not set to happen immediately and they will not all happen to the same countries. The Game Pass prices are set to increase in July for most markets excluding Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia. The console prices will be rising a month later, in August, for most countries excluding the United States of America, Japan, Chile, Brazil and Columbia.

In an article written by The Verge, they shared the exact price changes that will be coming to each console and game pass by region. Starting August 1, the Xbox Series X will cost £479.99 in the UK, €549.99 in most European markets, $649.99 in Canada and $799.99 in Australia. Additionally, starting on July 6, the monthly price for the Xbox Game Pass subscription for console will increase from $9.99 to $10.99 (£7.99 to £8.99 / €9.99 to €10.99). The other main change to pricing will come to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which will increase from $14.99 per month to $16.99 (£10.99 to £12.99 / €12.99 to €14.99).

It is important to note that among the Xbox items that are currently being sold, neither the Xbox Series S nor the PC Game Pass will have any price changes. As the modern landscape of gaming has been changing, it makes sense that the consoles and some of their perks are increasing in price. It will be interesting to see the fans’ reactions to these changes, but only time will tell if there will be any backlash to the changes made to the pricing.
