Developer DIE SOFT have released a brand new trailer for Metroidvania style platformer Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland. The title is set to launch for PC in Q1 2026 and a Nintendo Switch version will follow later next year.
Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland is set in the realm of Slumberland, a dream world. Players will assume the role of Nemo, a young dreamer who embarks on a quest to save Slumberland from the encroaching threat of Oblivion. This game draws inspiration from Winsor McCay’s early 20th-century comic strips, capturing the surreal characteristic of his works.
Players explore the domains that make up Slumberland, each containing its own unique inhabitants and collectibles. Players will traverse Slumberland defeating enemies, and facing off against bosses. Traversal is made easier through the use of Nemo’s toys; they’ll grant you the ability to avoid hazards, outmatch enemies, and travel along new pathways. Collectible cosmetics are available in Nemo’s pajamas and ‘little buddies.’
Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland features thematic domains which are all seamlessly connected. The title features an original soundtrack composed entirely by Peter Berkman of Anamanaguchi.
DIE SOFT founder, Dave Mauro has drawn heavy inspiration from Nintendo Entertainment System-era games. In a release from DIE SOFT they emphasize “The game’s revamped gameplay is designed with approachability and accessibility in mind, but can also scale up to appeal to more experienced metroidvania veterans.”
DIE SOFT aims to revive the charm of classic hand-drawn animation while delivering a fresh Metroidvania experience with Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland. Their intent is to blend nostalgic art with modern gameplay, creating a dreamlike world full of exploration. Fans of classic style games may find themselves well in good company with this title come next year.
